Considerately Cotters 2018 - 13 Jun

Posted by Simon on 13/06/2018 14:07

The weather turned out glorious last Saturday and all three teams completed their matches. The 1st team earned a winning draw at Quarndon, the 2nd team a good losing draw at home to Belper Amateurs 1stXI and the 3rd team an easy victory against Cutthorpe 4th XI to take them to the top of the table.

The first team scored 233 for 4,  Craig Elliott top scoring with a fluent 86, supported by Roger Bolstridge 45 and Dougie Briggs 44 no. Despite depleted bowling resources Darley restricted Quarndon to 223 for 6 to earn the winning draw. Matt Wright and Roger Bolstridge took 2 wickets each.

The second team won the toss and asked the visitors to bat. Ben Sellors bowled beautifully and was unlucky to claim only one wicket as Lee Marsden was unable to claim a top edge as he did a triple toe loop and double salko either side of the stumps having skidded on the icy grass ! Much like in the picture.

Will Street bowled a hostile spell claiming 2 wickets and he had the batsmen running for more protection.

The veteran skipper got hit for a few sixes in the dying embers of the innings but still took a Michelle with 5 for 34 as Belper ended their innings on 164 all out.

In reply Jonny Shaw and Ben Jordan continued their good form batting sensibly until drinks when Jonny slapped one to Minge at cover for 22. Ben was bowled for a well composed 27 and Ben Sellors hit a quick 15 but victory was never really in sight and a draw was secured ending on 119 for 6.

The third eleven travelled to Clay Cross to play Cutthorpe and having managed to win the toss inserted the home side. They were soon skittled out for 52 thanks to Jack Coates’ continued good form taking 3 wickets and Jack Walters also claiming 3 wickets. Despite a minor collapse it was left to Senior pros Johnson and Thompson to see Darley home by 6 wickets. It was a victory which took them to the summit of Division 10N if only for 24 hours. They now don’t have a match until July 1st !

The Juniors continued their good form with victories for U11 hardball and U13 teams. The U 15 had a narrow 3 run defeat to Baslow. Sincere thanks go EW Coates Butchers who have kindly agreed to sponsor the Club’s Junior Section.
